    This course is an introduction to the elements and principles of three-dimensional design.  Through the design and construction of 3-D forms using the subtractive and additive processes, we will explore visual and structural qualities as they relate to spatial contexts.  Students will work with low-tech, high craft processes to resolve three-dimensional design problems.  Various media and techniques will be explored.  [This course was previously ART 122.]

    This course is a study of the universe beginning with the earth-moon system, the planets and their satellites, the sun, asteroids and comets, and continuing to the stellar system. Star classifications, energy processes, star groups, evolution of stars and larger associations such as galaxies are studied.     This course is suited for natural or physical science disciplines and is designed to develop critical thinking skills by utilizing the principles of the scientific method.  Students will select 3-4 current scientific topics of their choosing.  Each topic will be explored, debated, and summarized through an individual position paper.  Depending on the number of students enrolled, the course may be delivered on-line or as independent study.  The course is primarily designed for transfer students, whose laboratory science courses are less than 4 semester hours each.  (Same as PSCI 110D).

    This course is a survey of the major environmental issues and concerns facing our planet. From a background study of natural ecosystems and human populations, the course will survey the environment, social, and economic consequences of energy generation, resource consumption, over-population, and pollution, with the goal of establishing what actually constitutes sustainability and wise environmental stewardship.  Local field trips, online laboratory exercises, on campus laboratory exercises, simulations, and debates will be a major part of the course.  (This course was previously BIOL 1040.)

  • BIOL 1070 - Environmental Management


    This course will include discussions and applications of microbiology, limnology (lakes and rivers), power generation, pollution, waste management, air and weather, toxicology, and environmental law (safe drinking water act [focus on MCLs and related limits], clean water act [focus on NPDES permitting], RCRA, CERCLA, NEPA, FIFRA, TSCA, NCP, OPA) focused toward the needs of the water and wastewater utilities. Completion of Foundations of Environmental Technology Technical Certificate with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher is required.

  • BIOL 1110 - ♦General Biology I


    This is a comprehensive course emphasizing cellular structure, function and metabolism, molecular form and functioning of life, and reproductive and genetic patterns. Taxonomy is introduced and applied to a taxonomic and morphologic survey of Monera, Protista, and Fungi Kingdoms. (This course is designed for the biology major/minor and satisfies the science requirement in pre-dentistry, engineering, premedical technology, pre-medicine, pre-nursing,  pre-pharmacy psychology or veterinary technology curricula.)  (Same as TN eCampus BIOL 1110)

    This course is a continuation of BIOL 1110 with emphasis on Kingdoms Animalia and Plantae in terms of tissue structure, comparative morphology and physiology, life patterns, and taxonomy. Consideration will also be given to the evolutionary and ecological interrelationships between these and all life forms.

  • CHEM 1110 - ♦General Chemistry I


    This course is a comprehensive study of chemical principles designed for students pursuing a career in chemistry or other scientific areas. Emphasis will be on atomic structure, bonding, formulas, equations, nomenclature and stoichiometry. Also included in the course are states of matter, hybridization, and molecular geometry. The laboratory will consist of a number of quantitative experiments designed to teach basic techniques including the use of laboratory instrumentation.  (Same as TN eCampus CHEM 11l0)
