The Professional Music Associate of Applied Science program prepares students to become working musicians in the entertainment industry. The program includes a foundation in music theory and entertainment industry practices as well as individual instruction and regular performance opportunities to prepare students for a variety of careers in popular music, including church music, performing, and songwriting.

All students graduating with a degree from VSCC are required to take the E-Proficiency Profile (EPP) to meet graduation requirements. More information can be found at https://www.volstate.edu/graduation/exit-exams.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, the graduate will have developed the skills, knowledge and abilities to accomplish the following:

  1. Demonstrate effective performance skills as a solo artist, as part of an ensemble, and/or as a music director.

  2. Collaborate appropriately with others in professional music settings.

  3. Apply a broad-based knowledge of music production technology and music theory to performances and/or other professional music settings.

  4. Demonstrate proficiency in the application of critical listening and practical audio engineering skills.
