EMSA 1350 - *Introduction to EMTB/A


This lecture course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge of an entry-level Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMTB). The following topics will be included: Emergency Medical Technician Basic-National Educational Standards competencies, roles and responsibilities of the EMTB, workforce safety, wellness, public health, communications, documentation, EMS operations, medical/legal/ethical considerations, fundamental anatomy and physiology, life span development, fundamental pathophysiology, patient assessment, airway management, respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, acute diabetic emergencies, abdominal and gastrointestinal emergencies, urologic emergencies, anaphylactic reactions, pharmacology appropriate to the basic level and behavioral emergencies appropriate to the Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMTB) level. 

Semester Availability: (Subject to Change) Fall, Spring
Prerequisites: Admission to the AAEMT program
Corequisites: EMSA 1150 , EMSA 1250 , EMSA 1260 , EMSA 2250 , EMSA 2260 , and EMSA 2650 
Contact Hours: 45 lecture hours per semester

Vocational/Career Program Designation: *Designated primarily for vocational/career programs
This course may be accepted as transfer credit by some colleges and universities, but that decision is made by the receiving institution. This course is collegiate-level work, but it has been developed with a purpose other than being a university parallel course.
