MECH 1340 - *Digital Fundamentals and Programmable Logic Controllers


This course is a study of basic digital logic and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in mechatronics.  Topics covered will include basic PLC functions and testing; identification of malfunctioning PLCs; and troubleshooting techniques and strategies to identify and localize PLC hardware generated problems.  Emphasis is on writing small programs and problem-solving using computer simulations.

Semester Availability: (Subject to Change) Fall (Gallatin and Cookeville), Spring (Gallatin)
Contact Hours: 30 lecture hours, 30 lab hours per semester

Vocational/Career Program Designation: *Designated primarily for vocational/career programs
This course may be accepted as transfer credit by some colleges and universities, but that decision is made by the receiving institution. This course is collegiate level work, but it has been developed with a purpose other than being a university parallel course.
