CHEM 1110 - ^General Chemistry I


This course is a comprehensive study of chemical principles designed for students pursuing a career in chemistry or other scientific areas. Emphasis will be on atomic structure, bonding, formulas, equations, nomenclature, and stoichiometry. Also included in the course are states of matter, hybridization, and molecular geometry. The laboratory will consist of a number of quantitative experiments designed to teach basic techniques, including the use of laboratory instrumentation. Credit in only one of the following courses can be used toward graduation or general education requirements: CHEM 1030 , CHEM 1110.

Semester Availability: (Subject to Change) Fall, Spring
Prerequisites: Acceptable placement scores or completion of all Learning Support Competencies in Reading and Writing or concurrent enrollment in ENGL 0810  and READ 0810  as determined by placement, completion of one year of high school Chemistry with a grade of C or higher or CHEM 1030  with a grade of C or higher, and an ACT math subscore of 19 or higher or completion with a grade of C or higher or concurrent enrollment in MATH 1130 , MATH 1710  or higher.
Corequisites: CHEM 1110 Laboratory
Contact Hours: 45 lecture hours, 45 lab hours per semester
