This program helps students build skills for jobs in public service fields such as community case management, substance abuse counseling, and other social service areas. It focuses on developing abilities in counseling, technology, writing, communication, client assessment, and community organizing.
After completing the A.S. degree, students may qualify for positions at social service agencies and nonprofit organizations. With appropriate professional certification, graduates can apply for entry-level or assistant social worker roles that involve case management or counseling support. This degree also provides a strong foundation for continuing toward a bachelor’s degree in social work.
Transfer Options
Tennessee Transfer Pathways (TTPs) are advising tools designed to help community college students plan for transferring to a Tennessee public university or select regionally accredited, non-profit, Tennessee private colleges and universities to complete their baccalaureate degree. The TTPs also constitute an agreement between community colleges and four-year colleges/universities confirming that community college courses meet major preparation requirements. For transfer to other four-year institutions, contact an advisor at the senior institution. Visit the Tennessee Transfer Pathways website for more information and TTP curriculum guides.
Note: There are to be no course substitutions where a specific course is required in the TTP curriculum guide. Courses not listed in the area of study, but which satisfy the TTP curriculum guide requirement, may be used to meet the graduation requirement. Students who believe they have satisfied a requirement not appearing on their degree audit should speak with their advisor.
