Tennessee Board of Regents
The College System of Tennessee is the state’s largest public higher education system, with more than 175 teaching locations and the online TN eCampus. The system is governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
The composition of the Tennessee Board of Regents is set forth in Tennessee Code Annotated 49-8-201. When legislation approved by the General Assembly in 2025 is fully implemented, the Board will have 21 members: 10 public members appointed by the Governor, with one each from the state’s nine congressional districts and one at-large member; two at-large public members appointed by the Speaker of the Senate; two at-large public members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives; two faculty members appointed by the Governor; one student appointed by the Governor; and four ex-officio members - the Governor of Tennessee, the Commissioner of Education, the Commissioner of Agriculture, and the Executive Director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, who is a non-voting member.
