CHEM 1110 - ♦General Chemistry I


A comprehensive study of chemical principles designed for students pursuing a career in chemistry or other scientific areas. Emphasis will be on atomic structure, bonding, formulas, equations, nomenclature and stoichiometry. Also included are states of matter, hybridization, and molecular geometry. The laboratory will consist of a number of quantitative experiments designed to teach basic techniques including the use of laboratory instrumentation.  (Same as RODP CHEM 11l0)

PREREQUISITES: Acceptable placement scores or completion of all Writing and Reading Learning Support Competencies, and an ACT MATH subscore of 19 (or equivalent) or completion of MATH 1005 with a grade of C or higher, and one year of high school Chemistry or completion of CHEM 1030 with a grade of C or higher.

PREREQUISITE or COREQUISITE:  MATH 1130, 1710, or higher
COREQUISITES: CHEM 1110L
Hours: Three lecture, three laboratory hours per week.
General Education: Course can be used to meet Minimum General Education Core requirements.
