Among the topics covered are the kinematics and dynamics of linear motion, the conditions for static equilibrium, the principles of conservation of energy and of momentum, Newton's law of gravitation, the kinematics and dynamics of rotational motion, mechanics of solids and fluids and thermodynamics. Differential and integral calculus and simple vector analysis are used throughout. The course is designed primarily for students intending to major in physics, chemistry, or mathematics; required of all students in the Engineering curriculum and strongly recommended for students planning to teach mathematics or science in secondary schools.
