  • COMM 222 - Field Production & Lighting


    This course continues COMM 2020 and 212 in a field setting, including intermediate and advanced shooting and editing techniques.  Students will practice field lighting and audio, production budgeting and planning, script writing, and storyboarding.  Student production teams will create professional-quality video productions.

  • COMM 225 - *Motion Graphics


    This course builds on concepts covered in ARTP 253 and COMM 212 and focuses on motino design for time based media, and the basics of compositing. Utilizing Adobe After Effects, students will learn to create still and motion text, images, and graphics for use in film, video, and broadcast.

    This course provides a foundation in industry standard formatting, style, and composition of scripts written for the screen. Topics covered include three-act structure, major plot events, vertical flow, efficient visual writing, character development, scenes and transitions, treatments, pitching, and the business of screenwriting.

  • COMM 235 - *Non-Fiction Film and Video Production


    This advanced course covers non-fiction production including documentaries, promotional videos, corporate and educational videos, commercials, PSAs, and video journalism. Students will research and develop topics, create AV scripts, develop interview questions, transcribe interviews and create paper edits, and work in teams to shoot and edit short non-fiction films and videos.

  • COMM 236 - *Fiction Film and Video Production


    This advanced course covers all aspects of fiction production including scriptwriting and effective storytelling; casting and directing actors; and responsibilities of the director and producer in all phases of production. Students will write scripts, hold casting sessions, and work in teams to direct and produce short fiction films and videos.

    This course includes an in-depth study of Digital Audio Technology with an emphasis on Digital Audio Workstation Technology, related to the recording, overdubbing, editing, and mixing of music.  Students will gain practical “hands-on” experience with Digital Audio Workstation hardware and software utilizing both Macintosh and PC platforms.  [This course was previously COM 272.]

  • COMM 273 - *Live Sound Recording and Reinforcement


    This course provides instruction in live sound recording and reinforcement including further development of audio principles introduced in COMM 270 and COMM 271 as applied to live sound.  It includes instruction on load-in, setup, test, trouble-shoot, operate, tear-down, and load-out of state-of-the-art Live Sound Reinforcement system.  It also includes applied training by supporting the Visual and Performing Arts, the Music, Theatre, and Audio Visual departments.

    This is an introductory course in audio production techniques and equipment for analog and HD radio as well as other audio applications.  This course includes practice in recording, editing, and microphone techniques.
