Scholarships


Foundation and Organization Scholarships

The scholarship program is funded by individuals, civic groups, and corporations through donations to the Volunteer State College Foundation. Individuals or groups interested in making contributions or establishing a scholarship are encouraged to contact the Foundation Office. The Foundation Office is a 501 (c)(3) organization; therefore all gifts are tax deductible.

You may apply for scholarships on line at http://www.volstate.edu/FinancialAid/waiver.php. (One scholarship application per semester should be submitted.)  Scholarship deadlines are March 1 for Fall semester and November 1 for Spring semester.  Based on your scholarship application, your name will be included in the selection process for all scholarships for which you meet the specified criteria. All Foundation scholarship recipients must be currently enrolled at Volunteer State Community College. Full-time status is twelve (12) or more hours and part-time is six (6) to eleven (11) hours.

THE ABC GROUP: A child or grandchild of an employee who is a graduating senior and has maintained a 2.5 high school GPA and plans to attend full-time.

ALLIED HEALTH SCHOLARSHIP: Awarded, but not limited to a Minority student attending full or part-time, with academic achievement in the Allied Health Program; one semester award.

AMERICAN LEGION POST 17: A veteran, spouse, children, or stepchildren, grandchildren, or other relative in this order of preference; prefer resident of Gallatin first, then Sumner County; on the basis of satisfactory academic achievement and economic need.

PEDRO ARIAS MEMORIAL HISPANIC ALLIANCE SCHOLARSHIP:  Awarded to a Hispanic student with a demonstrated need.

MATT BARBEE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  Award to a full-time student attending Volunteer State Community College.  Preference is given to a student athlete whose goal is to teach and/or coach.  If the student is not involved as a participant in athletics, preference is still given to a student who plans to teach and/or coach.

SAM BELOTE: A Sumner County resident who is pursuing a career in one of the Allied Health Programs or Nursing; based on economic need and satisfactory academic achievement; must be full-time.

BUDD AND JULIA BISHOP (LIVINGSTON): One academic, 3.0 GPA and one need based, 2.0 GPA given to Livingston campus full-time students.

HELEN NESBITT BRANHAM MEMORIAL: A full or part-time student able to maintain a 3.0 GPA. Prefer both academic and need based.

BYRON’S, INC.: An associate or dependent (natural birth/legal adoption) of a Byron’s associate; minimum 2.0 high school GPA and ACT composite score of 18. If there are no qualified applicants, scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of Gallatin High School - then to any graduating senior of Sumner County who meets all criteria.

HUGH & ALICE CARPENTER MEMORIAL: A need-based, full-time student over the age of 23.

BARRY CECIL MEMORIAL: A full or part-time student; minimum 2.0 GPA.

CELEBRATE SUCCESS: A full-time student that has earned at least 12 college credit hours and majoring in Math, Science (emphasis on Biology, Chemistry or Physics). Students who have received full Pell awards the prior semester are NOT eligible. Preference will be given to students eligible for student loans only. Based on need and academics (3.7 GPA or higher).

CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP:  Award to a student who resides in Hendersonville who is pursuing a criminal justice degree on a full-time basis. 

LARRY AND WANDA COLLINS SCHOLARSHIP: Preference given to Sumner or Robertson County resident. Consider both financial need and academic ability.

COMMUNITY BANK AND TRUST: A graduate of Robertson County High School attending full-time. Need based with academic consideration.

CREDIT UNION OF ROBERTSON COUNTY:  Must have been a member of The Credit Union of Robertson County for a minimum of six months.  Must have been out of high school for at least one year.  Can be full-time (12 hours) or part-time (6 hours) per semester.

CREDIT UNION OF ROBERTSON COUNTY FOR HIGHLAND CREST:  Any graduating high school senior that will attend Volunteer State at Highland Crest Campus in Springfield, TN. 

CRESENT ENTERPRISES, INC.: A dependent child 21 years of age or under of a Cresent employee who graduated from high school or received their GED with plans to attend full-time.

CUSTOM PACKAGING, INC.: Dependent of a Custom Packaging employee who is a graduating senior and plans to attend full-time.

DR. MARGARET P. DAHLHAUSER NURSING: A VSCC/TSU Nursing student who has completed the first three semesters.

JOHNNY W. DAKE MEMORIAL: A single female parent (divorced or widowed) residing in Sumner County who plans to attend full or part-time and has satisfactory academic achievement and economic need.

DODSON FAMILY FOUNDATION RETURNING STUDENT: Student 25 years or older attending full-time.

BILLIE C. DODSON MEMORIAL: A need-based, Sumner County resident and/or returning student, majoring in Education or Natural Resource Management.

CLAY F. DODSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: An academic & need-based student attending the Livingston campus full-time.

WILDA H. DODSON RETURNING WOMEN: A returning woman 25 years of age or over, full-time student, based on economic need and satisfactory academic achievement.

WILLIAM AND BETH DRAPER: A Sumner County resident attending full-time. Based on economic need and satisfactory academic achievement; recipient may be a graduating senior or a returning student.

DR. AND MRS. PAUL ENOCH SCHOLARSHIP: A full-time student who demonstrates high moral character and leadership qualities. Recipient can be an out-of-state student.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS BOOK ASSISTANCE:  Need based scholarship given to a VSCC employee or dependent with a 3.0 GPA.

THE FARMERS BANK: A Sumner or Robertson County resident majoring in business with economic need and satisfactory academic achievement.

FRIENDS OF SUMNER REGIONAL VOLUNTEER AUXILIARY:  Tuition for a full-time student.  Recipient should be a resident of Sumner county.  Majoring in Medical/Allied Health, may include non-clinical medical fields.

GALLATIN NOON ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: Awarded to a Gallatin resident based on satisfactory academic achievement and economic need.

GALLATIN NOON ROTARY RETURNING STUDENT: Gallatin resident who has previously received the Gallatin Rotary Club Scholarship with satisfactory academic achievement and economic need.

GFWC WOMAN’S CLUB OF HENDERSONVILLE, THE MR. & MRS. CLAY TIDWELL SCHOLARSHIP: A single, divorced or widowed female student over 30 years of age who resides in Sumner County and is returning to school in order to re-enter or upgrade skills for the job market; based on satisfactory academic achievement and economic need.

MELISSA GIBSON MEMORIAL: A student with the desire to complete a minimum of a bachelors program either in music education or performance and a love of sharing their musical talents.

GOODLETTSVILLE EVENING LIONS CLUB:  Award to be made to a visually or hearing impaired student with a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.

W. HARDIN AND MARY GUTHRIE MEMORIAL: Business major, full-time student, 3.0 GPA, academic with need base.

H & VH CHALLENGE SCHOLARSHIP:  Given to one male and one female White House High School graduating senior.  Must be a full-time student with at least a 2.75 GPA.

MICHAEL AND JAN HALLMARK: Returning student (male or female) who is a single parent and has financial need.

HENDERSONVILLE 100 PLUS CLUB: Available to all current Sumner County personnel engaged in emergency services of any kind including, but not limited to law enforcement, fire, ambulance, dispatchers, and patrol mothers, whether full-time, part-time, volunteer, or disabled. Available also for the spouse, child, stepchild, or grandchild of above group including any personnel deceased in the line of duty performing emergency service. If none, then any eligible full or part-time student. Need based, minimum 2.0 GPA.

HENDERSONVILLE CHAMBER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP:  Awarded to a member, employee, or dependent of member/employee of the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce based on economic need.

HENDERSONVILLE EXCHANGE CLUB:  Need-based book scholarship.

HENDERSONVILLE NOON SERTOMA: Full-time, need based student with ability to maintain a 2.5 GPA.

HENDERSONVILLE ROTARY CLUB JIM C. MOORE MEMORIAL: Graduating senior from any Hendersonville Area High School attending full-time.

HENDERSONVILLE ROTARY RENEWAL: Need-based, full-time student who has previously received a Hendersonville Rotary Club Scholarship.

HENDERSONVILLE ROTARY RETURNING STUDENT: Need-based, returning student over the age of 23 who is a resident of Hendersonville attending full-time. Preference is given to a single parent.

ITW DYNATEC:  Awarded to a full or part-time minority student majoring in Engineering.  Would like the recipient to consider part-time or summer employment with ITW Dynatec.

WILLIAM GUTHRIE HODGES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: A returning woman, with economic need and satisfactory academic achievement, must be a full-time student.

STELLA HOLIDAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Recipient must have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher, desire to obtain a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and be dedicated to continuing their education as demonstrated by performance; honesty, acceptable conduct and respect for self and others. Need based and field of study must be in university parallel curriculum.

DR. HALDEN W. HOOPER, SR. SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT: A student with promise attending full or part-time. Minimum GPA of 2.5 and need based.

ROBERT & LUCY WHITE HUDGINS MEMORIAL: Female student 25 years of age or older with economic need and satisfactory academic achievement enrolled part-time. Field of study should be Allied Health or Nursing.

GUY AND LUCILE JONES MEMORIAL: Award first to a Jones Brothers employee, spouse or dependent. Second to a graduate of Friendship Christian, Mt. Juliet Christian, Mt. Juliet High School, or third to a graduate of a Wilson County School. (Graduating senior is not required). Based on financial need, character, and academics in that order.

JUNIOR SERVICE LEAGUE OF GALLATIN SCHOLARSHIP: A female residing in Gallatin who is enrolled full-time or part-time. Maintain a 3.0 or better GPA.

TONYA KELLY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: A full or part-time student attending the Livingston campus. Preference given to a graduate of Cookeville High School and a resident of Cookeville, TN, if none then open to the general VSCC campus population.

TONYA KELLY MEMORIAL/ECHO VALLEY MARKET FAMILY & FRIENDS: Need based, full or part-time student with a disability attending the Livingston Campus. Recipient must be a Cookeville resident & registered with the VSCC Office of Disability Services. Preference given to a Cookeville HS graduate.

CHIEF DAVID L. KEY ENDOWED: A graduate of any Sumner County high school who plans a career in law enforcement. Need based.

JERRY KIRKMAN SCHOLARSHIP: Need based. Student must be in a campus religious organization.

PETER KURELA: A graduating senior of Portland High School.

FRANK J. & ELSIE M. MADDOX MEMORIAL: Computer Information Systems (CIS) major.

HUGH AND MARGIE MARSH SCHOLARSHIP: Full-time student with financial need.

RAYMOND A. McCULLOUGH: A student in the health sciences field who is able to maintain a 3.0 or better GPA. Need based.

METROPOLITAN NASHVILLE AIRPORT AUTHORITY: Full-time student with need enrolled in aviation management or emergency medical studies.

JIM MOORE MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT: Full-time student who has achieved academic excellence without consideration of economic need. Preference should be given to a forensics or communication major.

TOM AND BETTY NEAL:  Recipient must be a Gallatin High School graduate, immediately after graduation.

JANICE NELSON MEMORIAL: A part-time scholarship to either a graduating senior or a returning student who is majoring in business.

LYNN F. NYSTROM RECYCLING SCHOLARSHIP: Full-time, degree seeking student who has an interest in recycling and a 2.75 GPA; open to current as well as incoming students; based on satisfactory academic achievement and need.

R. C. OWEN COMPANY: A relative of current or former employee of R. C. Owen Company; if none available, then any recent Gallatin High School graduate.

SHAWN MICHAEL PALLOTTINI MEMORIAL:  Goes to a Sumner County Adult Education GED graduate.  Recipient selected by SCAEAC committee and must maintain a 2.5 GPA.

BRENDA S. PAYNE TRIBUTE: A returning student attending full or part-time.

TED PAYNE: A full-time student who must work 60 hours a semester under the same guidelines as the VSCC Division Academic Service Scholarships.

JAMES AND REBECCA POPE: Sumner County resident attending full-time and has satisfactory academic achievement and economic need.

PRESIDENT’S AMBASSADOR PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP: Student Ambassadors will assist with orientation, registration, recruitment, high school visits, phone-a-thons, campus tours, special events, community service and speaking engagements. Ambassador is a representative of the College student body and a marketing representative of the entire campus. He/she is a student who has a desire to work with faculty, staff, students, and members of the community to promote VSCC and its programs and services.

DIXIE C. AND CLAUDE O. RAMER MEMORIAL: Need based student attending full-time and is able to maintain a 2.0 GPA.

HAL R. RAMER: Award given as a part-time general scholarship to a student who has completed nine (9) semester hours and is an evening student.

HAL R. RAMER HONORS SCHOLARSHIP:  Award to students with an ACT or 26 or above, cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 in college courses, and two letters of recommendation.  Must attend meetings as called by the Honors Program Director and enroll in at least one honors course per semester.

SHIRLEY REEVES RETURNING WOMEN: Book award with amount to be determined by each individual’s circumstance and economic need.

JEFF RIADON MEMORIAL: Full or part-time student with need.

ROBERTSON MINORITY TEXTBOOK:  African-American students with a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.  Preference given to Education and Nursing majors.

JUDY LEE SCHREIBER: Two (2) need based students attending full or part-time basis.

JE & CLARA SENTER: A male and a female basketball player; full or part-time; need based.

SGA BOOK ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:  Full- time student with a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA.

SGA DORIS STAFFORD TEXTBOOK ASSISTANCE: Evening student Book Award, need based.

SGA ELKIN BROWN LITERARY AND HUMANITIES:  Awarded to an English or Humanities major with at least a 2.75 college GPA or minimum 21 ACT for incoming Freshmen.

SGA MAMA NADEAN NAPIER TEXTBOOK ASSISTANCE: A student that is 30 years old or older attending full-time. Minimum GPA to apply is 2.75.

SGA MATH AND SCIENCE:  Mathematics, Natural, or Physical Science major with a minimum 2.75 college GPA or 21 ACT for incoming Freshmen.

SGA DR. MONIQUE ROBINSON-WRIGHT BRIGHTER FUTURE SCHOLARSHIP: Full-time student with need. Must have completed twelve semester hours and have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.

SGA PATTY POWELL REFLECTION OF LIGHT: Full-time, need-based student who has completed 12 credit hours and is taking or has taken a Leadership course at VSCC.  Must have a minimum 3.5 college GPA.

SGA DR. RUFF HISTORY AND POLITICAL SCIENCE:  History or Social Science major with a minimum 2.75 college GPA or a 21 ACT for incoming Freshmen.

SHALOM ZONE/CLEARVIEW COMMUNITY ADKINS-BENDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: A need based graduating high school senior resident of Clearview Heights Community in Gallatin with a GPA of 2.0 or above. Full-time.

DARLENE D. SINKS SCHOLARSHIP: Graduate of Hendersonville High School attending full or part-time. Need based and GPA of 2.5 or better.

SKYLINE AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP: An Allied Health or Nursing student with need over the age of 23, attending full-time.

SPRINGFIELD ROTARY CLUB FOUNDATION: A Robertson County resident with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and 19 or above on the ACT. Must have evidence of financial need and have participated in extra-curricular activities.

STONES RIVER WOMENS CLUB:  A female student who is returning to school to further her education after an absence of several years. 

JAMES STORY TRIBUTE:  Recipient must show high level of performance in either the Vol State Singers, Show Choir, or Commercial Music Ensemble.

WILLIAM T. SUGG TRIBUTE: A dependent child of an employee of Sumner Regional Health Systems who plans to attend full-time.

WAYNE SULLIVAN MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE:  Awarded to a student majoring in mathematics

SUMNER COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION ADVISORY COUNCIL: GED graduates enrolled in the Sumner County Adult Education Program with a minimum of 50 as the average standard score and demonstrates a sincere desire to further their education as exemplified by performance, honesty, acceptable conduct and respect for self and others.

SUMNER COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION:  Given to a Paralegal major.  Academic based.  Recipient selected by Sumner County Bar Assn committee.

SUMNER COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY: A full-time History major who has achieved academic excellence and completed at least 24 college credit hours. Financial need considered along with character and leadership qualities.

SUMNER COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL: Children of officers killed in the line of duty.

TENNESSEE HOTEL AND LODGING ASSOCIATION: Any employee of the member companies of the THMA who plans to attend full or part-time with a minimum of 3 credit hours.

TVA SCHOLARSHIP:  Award to a student who is socially and economically disadvantaged and willing to enroll in a minimum of twelve credit hours per semester.  Minimum 3.0 GPA.

GRACE TOMKINS HEALTHCARE: A female Sumner County resident who graduated in the top one-half of her high school class; recipient must be majoring in an Allied Health Program or Nursing.

MICHAEL TUCK MEMORIAL: A student athlete who graduated from Gallatin High School, who plans to attend full-time. VSCC Athletic Committee will select.

SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION OF ROBERTSON COUNTY:  Awarded to a full-time student attending the Highland Crest campus in Springfield, TN.

SHERIFF J.D. VANDERCOOK: Law Enforcement Field (police officer, paralegal, pre-law); full or part-time; need based with 2.5 GPA or higher.

VOL-E BALL:  Overton County resident attending the Livingston campus.  Must have at least an 18 on the ACT.  May be full or part-time.

VOLUNTEER STATE BANK: Economic need and satisfactory academic achievement; given in honor of an individual selected each year from the community.

VSAA NAN & POPS HUDSON SCHOLARSHIP: Athletic Director will determine students who may need additional hours over the summer to graduate.

VSCC ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP:  Full-time Alumn family member, need based with 2.0 GPA or higher.  Family members defined as child, stepchild, grandchild, step grandchild, spouse, parent, step parent, grandparent, step grandparent, niece or nephew.  Preference given to 1) family member of an Alum who supports the Foundation; 2) then to immediate family member over niece or nephew.  Recipient selected by Alumni Advisory Council. 

VSCC ART SCHOLARSHIP: An art student on the basis of academic excellence without consideration of financial need; recipient selected by special campus art committee.

VSCC BOWLING CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: Book award to a member of the VSCC Bowling Club. Recipient selected by the Bowling Scholarship Committee.

VSCC EXCELLENCE IN THEATER: Student with excellence in Theater Studies (acting, design, or tech.)

VSCC HONORS: Incoming freshmen with an ACT score of 26 or above; applications received by March 1st will get first consideration and after March 1st, it will be first come, first serve basis. Scholarship may be renewable based upon funding.

VSCC MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP: Music Performance major enrolled in the Vol State Singers, Show/Choir or Commercial Music Ensemble. Need based. Selected by Choir Director.

ANNE WAGNER: Part-time student who is enrolled off-campus with preference given to McGavock students, second preference to an education major; recipients must have completed a minimum of 6 semester hours, be degree-seeking with a declared major, show satisfactory academic achievement, and receiving no other form of aid from Vol State.

JOHN B. WALLACE (ALLIED HEALTH) SCHOLARS: Need-based, full-time student accepted in the Allied Health degree program at Vol State who maintains a 3.0 or above grade point average. Maybe renewed for a second year if criteria has been met. Recipients selected by the Wallace Scholarship Committee.

DRS. JOHN B. WALLACE, WALTER H. STEPHENSON, AND ROBERT C. WEBSTER MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT: A second year Pre-Med student attending full-time. Preference given to a Sumner County resident under the age of 30 and is able to maintain a 3.5 GPA. Need based.

JIM WARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: A second-year Life Science student with academic accomplishment, aptitude and need.

JOSEPH C. WATLINGTON MATH AND SCIENCE: A declared degree-seeking student in science, mathematics, or engineering with the intention of going on for a baccalaureate degree in one of these fields.

RALPH & SANDY WEBSTER: Pre-Med, Nursing, or any Allied Health Program; full or part-time; need based with 3.0 GPA or higher.

WEIR MINERALS-LINATEX/RAY LAZURE SCHOLARSHIP:  Spouse or dependent of Linatex employee who is majoring in Engineering or Business.

W. H. WEMYSS MEMORIAL: Academic achievement and economic need to a full-time student.

ROBERT L. WENDLING MEMORIAL: Full-time, satisfactory academic achievement and economic need.

ROBERT J. PARKS WHITE HOUSE ROTARY CLUB: A graduating senior of White House High School with a 3.0 GPA and plans to attend full-time.

WHITE HOUSE KIWANIS CLUB:  Graduate of White House High School with a 2.5 GPA, member of WHHS Key Club in good standing with 50 hrs minimum accumulated service to home, school & community.  Recipient selected by Kiwanis Club of White House committee.

E. B. WILSON HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP: An E. B. Wilson graduate attending full or part-time.

RANDY AND LOIS WOOD COMMUNICATION: A full or part-time student majoring in Communication. Academic and need based.
