Early Childhood Education (Pre K-3) - A.S.T. (TTP)


The Early Childhood Education (Pre K-3) program emphasis is a two-year program for students planning to complete a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.  Students pursuing careers in early childhood education with a 4-year bachelor’s degree may follow the career of a preschool teacher as well as a teacher in grades K-3.

Transfer Options

The Tennessee Transfer Pathway (TTP) degree is designed to create a smooth transition to all public universities offering a Baccalaureate degree in this major by guaranteeing the transferability of all courses. For transfer to other four-year institutions, contact an advisor at the senior institution.  Note:  There are to be no course substitutions in this program. 

All students graduating with an Associate of Science in Teaching degree from VSCC are required to take the Educational Testing Service Proficiency Profile (ETSP). More information can be found at http://www.volstate.edu/Testing/Services.php.

Additional AST Degree Requirements:
1. Attainment of a 2.75 cumulative grade point average.
2. Minimum ACT cumulative score of 21 (SAT 1020) or successful completion of approved standardized examination (Praxis Core). MTSU requires a minimum ACT score of 22.
3. Submission of three Disposition Assessment Forms with satisfactory ratings on an index of suitability for the teaching profession to the Social Science & Education Division. 
Note: Students transferring to a public university in Tennessee may need to meet additional requirements to gain admittance to the university.

¹ For transfer to APSU, ETSU, UM, UTC and UTK, Math 1530 is required. At UTM and TSU, Math 1130: College Algebra is required.

² Neither University of Memphis nor UT Knoxville has Development of Exceptional Children in its Pre-K-3 curriculum and students transferring to the University of Memphis or UT Knoxville will have to take one other course, which must be approved by a course substitution.

3 Students who plan to transfer to UT Knoxville should take an intermediate foreign language instead of Math 1410; University of Memphis does not require completion of Math 1410.

4 Students who plan to transfer to ETSU should take EDUC 2210 instead of Math 1420.

Attainment of 2.75 cumulative GPA; successful completion of Praxis Core exams or ACT Composite Score of 22, and satisfactory ratings on three disposition assessments.
