EMSX 2650 - *Advanced EMTB/A


This lecture course, which includes basic and advanced skills necessary to be a competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technician Advanced (EMTA), focuses on the acute management and transportation of critical and emergent patients. The following topics will be addressed: Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMTB) and Emergency Medical Technician Advanced (EMTA) - National Educational Standards competencies, roles and responsibilities of the EMTA, workforce, safety, wellness, public health, communications, documentation, medical/legal/ethical considerations, anatomy and physiology, life span development, pathophysiology, patient assessment, critical thinking, airway management to include supraglottic airways, respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, acute diabetic emergencies, abdominal and gastrointestinal emergencies, urologic emergencies, anaphylactic reactions, intravenous therapy, pharmacology level-appropriate, and behavioral emergencies appropriate for the Emergency Medical Technician Advanced (EMTA) level. (This course was previously EMSA 2650.)

Prerequisites: Admission to the AAEMT program
Corequisites: EMSX 1150 , EMSX 1250 , EMSX 1260 , EMSX 1350 , EMSX 2250 , and EMSX 2260  
Contact Hours: 90 lecture hours per semester
Vocational/Career Program Designation: *Designated primarily for vocational/career programs
This course may be accepted as transfer credit by some colleges and universities, but that decision is made by the receiving institution. This course is collegiate-level work, but it has been developed with a purpose other than being a university parallel course.
