EMSX 1250 - *EMT First Responder


This lecture course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge of an entry-level Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). The following topics are included: Emergency Medical Responder-National Educational Standards competencies, roles, and responsibilities of the EMR, workforce safety, wellness, public health, communications, documentation, EMS operations, medical/legal/ethical considerations, fundamental anatomy and physiology, life span development, fundamental pathophysiology, patient assessment, airway management, respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, acute diabetic emergencies, abdominal and gastrointestinal emergencies, urologic emergencies, appropriate at the Emergency Medical Responder level. (This course was previously EMSA 1250.)

Prerequisites: Admission to the AAEMT Program
Corequisites: EMSX 1150 , EMSX 1260 , EMSX 1350 , EMSX 2250 , EMSX 2260 , and EMSX 2650  
Contact Hours: 30 lecture hours per semester
Vocational/Career Program Designation: *Designated primarily for vocational/career programs
This course may be accepted as transfer credit by some colleges and universities, but that decision is made by the receiving institution. This course is collegiate-level work, but it has been developed with a purpose other than being a university parallel course.
