VET 220 - *Veterinary Anesthesia and Surgery


This course will prepare the student for proper operation of a surgical suite and management of anesthetized animals.  Students will calculate anesthetic dosages, learn the proper function and maintenance of gas anesthesia machines, monitor anesthetized animals and practice skills such as intubation and mechanical ventilation.  Asepsis, autoclaving, surgical instrument care and cleaning will also be included.

Semester Availability:  SPRING ONLY - Semester Availability is subject to change.  See your advisor.

Prerequisites: VET 110  and VET 130   (all with a grade of C or higher)
Corequisites: VET 220 LAB: Vet Anesthesia and Surgery
Contact Hours: Three lecture hours per week
Laboratory Hours: Three laboratory hours per week
Vocational/Career Program Designation: *Designated primarily for vocational/career programs
This course may be accepted as transfer credit by some colleges and universities, but that decision is made by the receiving institution. This course is collegiate level work, but it has been developed with a purpose other than being a university parallel course.
