MLAB 2301 - *Immunohematology/Blood Bank

This course will cover the theory and practice of blood group antigens and antibodies, donor selection, and component therapy. Topics include: ABO grouping, Rh typing, cross matching, antibody screening and identification, quality control, donor screening, component preparation, hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn, autoimmune hemolytic anemias, and adverse effects of transfusion.

Prerequisites: Formal admission to the Medical Laboratory Technician Program
Corequisites: MLAB 2301L

This course may be accepted as transfer credit by some colleges and universities, but that decision is made by the receiving institution. This course is collegiate level work, but it has been developed with a purpose other than being a university parallel course.
