PTA 221 - *Functional Anatomy and Kinesiology


This course presents the basic concept of functional anatomy and kinesiology. The perspective taken in studying this subject is from that of a physical therapist assistant. A detailed understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy will be reinforced and the neurological connections highlighted. Emphasis is placed on normal motion and movement patterns, especially as they apply to physical rehabilitation. Biomechanical principles and functional characteristics of the musculoskeletal system are introduced.

PREREQUISITES: PTA 110 and acceptance into the PTA program.
Hours: Fifteen lecture and thirty laboratory hours per semester.
Vocational/Career Program Designation: *Designated primarily for vocational/career programs

This course may be accepted as transfer credit by some colleges and universities, but that decision is made by the receiving institution. This course is collegiate level work, but has been developed with a purpose other than being a university parallel course.
